Project Summary:

The I-35 Express project is expansive. It extends approximately 30 miles, from US 380 in Denton County to I-635 in Dallas County. The design-build project is expected to relieve traffic congestion in one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the North Texas region.

Stormwater Problem:

TxDOT and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers were presented with many stormwater runoff challenges that required treatment. This was a particularly challenging issue on the extension bridge where stormwater runoff needed to be treated prior to entering the lake. It was also decided that the stormwater needed to direct water over the bridge in a sheet rather than at a single exit point to protect boats passing under the bridge. With drinking water reservoirs for Dallas nearby, protection of sensitive waters was a must.

Stormwater Solution:

The Aqua-Swirl achieved the desired result of treating stormwater runoff. It was particularly helpful on the Bridge 91 project as it provided the needed capacity to treat the projected water volume and met customization needs to fit in the unique space available. The water that returned to the river was evenly spread out, meeting safety requirements.

“We’ve placed one of AquaSwirl so far. For the design, we requested a few changes, a different connection and receiving pieces. AquaShield did all the customization, and the delivery was seamless. This is a huge project and our first with AquaShield. They are always available and knowledgeable, and provide quality drawings.”
